Functionality

The rollers work within the variator drum: as they rotate, their mass generates a centrifugal force that pushes the rollers outward and lifts the belt onto the cones. A heavier roller will tend to cause the "engagement" of the gear at a lower RPM, while a lighter roller will delay this increase in RPM.
