The Diablo Rosso III combines the latest technologies acquired by Pirelli in the Superbike World Championship over recent years. Pirelli engineers have further enhanced all these elements to provide an unprecedented level of performance for a supersport tyre that directly derives from the Diablo Supercorsa. The Diablo Rosso III significantly improves handling, absolute grip, and performance on wet roads, while ensuring lasting and consistent performance throughout the tyre's lifecycle.
Technical performance of the Diablo Rosso III:
- Sporty handling conveys a strong sense of safety and predictability to the rider, made possible by the combined characteristics of the profiles and structure that directly derive from the world of Superbike competitions, where quick cornering and stability are fundamental.
- First-rate grip, not only on dry roads but also on wet roads, thanks to new materials
- Absolute and consistent reference performance over time, as the tyre's qualities are durable and allow for full appreciation and enjoyment throughout its lifecycle.
Diablo Rosso III tread pattern:
- The tread pattern of the new Diablo Rosso III directly derives from the famous competition tyre Diablo Supercorsa, which has been adapted for more road use.
- For Pirelli engineers, it was important to maintain the groove with the distinctive lightning design on the tread, as it is a recognised symbol of sportiness and aggressiveness. The overall grooves represent the best solution to achieve a certain density of the tread shoulder, a good solid/void ratio, and excellent water drainage.
- The orientation of the grooves follows the wear waves orthogonally, interrupting the forces that cause them, thus promoting more uniform wear and reducing the stress to which the compound is subjected. The orientation is also effective for water evacuation, performing well even on wet roads.
Compounds of the Diablo Rosso III:
- Through an exclusive and patented mixing process, Pirelli has developed innovative compounds with a high silica content combined with oils, resins, and next-generation polymers, thus improving the cohesion of the elements to achieve an unprecedented level of homogeneity.
- The rear tyre is a dual compound, with a wide side portion of high grip compound and a central part ensuring longevity. The profile is divided in a 40–20–40 ratio where the more performance-oriented side compound covers 80% of the tread, while the remaining 20% in the central section consists of a functional compound offering stability and longevity.
- With this arrangement, the side compound, which ensures grip, comes into play right from the beginning of the lean phase, guaranteeing excellent adherence that instills confidence in the rider during the lean. This is made possible by the compound used on the sides, which employs a 100% silica formulation and provides all the necessary grip on both dry and wet roads. The side compound is supported by a harder compound that provides the tyre with stability and precision in maintaining trajectory in corners.
- The same compound, which is only found in the substrate in the side areas, emerges in the central part and covers a width of about 45 mm of the tread. This compound also has a high silica content (though less than 100%) and aims to ensure stability at high speeds as well as reference longevity for the supersport tyre segment.
- The front tyre is a single compound with a silica content of 100% as only this can provide riders with true feedback as well as great stability.
Profiles of the Diablo Rosso III:
- The profile of the front tyre is characterised by a multi-radius development that improves handling, offering the rider immediate lean and simultaneously facilitating quick direction changes.
- Compared to that of the Diablo Rosso II, the profile is taller in the central part and wider on the sides to provide a larger and more stable contact area during leaning.
- Additionally, the height of the sidewall has increased by about 3 mm to promote better sidewall flexibility during acceleration out of corners, with improved traction.
- The rear tyre follows the same pattern and features a geometry similar to that of the front tyre, thus ensuring perfectly balanced and synchronised behaviour of the set.
